Astrid Munoz has just published a paper in BMC Evol. Biol. looking at H. e. chestertonii. She wanted to investigate whether deep mitochondrial divergence within the species was caused by either cryptic speciation or hidden mitochondrial symbionts. Turns out, it was neither.
We have just published a paper in Development, Genes and Evolution, showing that the pigmentation genes ebony and tan show expression patterns that are tightly correlated with wing regions of differing colours in the developing Heliconius pupa.
