Simon Baxter has left the building…. We wish Simon all the best on his departure for Adelaide where he will be setting up his own lab. Simon has been in the group for seven years and we will all miss him enormously.

Well done Carolina on publishing the first paper from her PhD in PLoS Genetics yesterday. It complements the data in the genome paper, showing adaptive introgression of wing patterning alleles across species boundaries. An important result is that her analyses show the direction of the gene flow was from melpomene into timareta.
We were pleased to see Heliconius butterflies on the cover of Trends in Genetics for the July issue. We are excited that Adriana Briscoe has been awarded an Overseas Visiting Scholarship to visit St John’s College for 3 months in the Michaelmas term 2012. We plan to annotate and study patterns of molecular evolution at Heliconius chemosensory genes.
