We organised the Insect genomics Special Interest Group meeting for the Royal Entomological Society on monday. Thanks to all who came – nearly 120 people – it was a great success. There is clearly a lot of interest in genomics among the insect world. Looking forward to the next one.

I have just returned from a trip to visit Stefan Schulz in Braunschweig, Germany. We are collaborating to look at the wing chemistry of Heliconius, and in particular the chemical components of androconial patches used in male courtship…and maybe speciation.
Well done Patricio for passing his viva on Monday, with only fairly minor corrections. And many thanks to the examiners for all their hard work, Jim Mallet and Paul Brakefield, both of whom had collected butterflies in the ecuadorean hybrid zone where Patricio worked.
