Maria-Clara Melo’s paper on the mate preferences of hybrids has just been published in Evolution. She has shown that H. melpomene x H. cydno backcross hybrids prefer to mate amongst themselves – suggesting that the hybrid origin of species such as H. heurippa could be extremely rapid.
