Well done to Joe Hanly on publishing his PhD work in the journal EvoDevo. The paper includes a broad assessment of gene expression across three species of Heliconius, focusing on transcription factor expression. We identified Homothorax as a candidate gene that may act as an upstream regulator of optix.

Last night we said goodbye to Simon Martin, who started his PhD in Cambridge in 2011. A special highlight was a special song sung by Kathy and Gabby, ‘TWISST and shout’. Very special. Simon is going to start his own lab in Edinburgh with a Royal Society Fellowship.
